Dr. Tummalapalli Harinarayana was an eminent Physician & Surgeon by profession with a spirit for public service generosity and a person of righteousness with frugal habits.
Dr. Hari Narayana was born on 8th October, 1885 in Bezwada. (Vijayawada). He did his graduation in B.A., with Physics in the Christian College Madras and L.M & S (Licentiate in Medicine and Surgery) in Madras. He was recruited to the Medical Department in then Madras Presidency in the year 1911.
In the year 1912, Dr Hari Narayana married to Annapurnamma who was the daughter of Sri Patibandla Venkata Subbaiah Telaprolu village, Krishna (Dist.), in Andhra Pradesh.
The deep compassion in Dr. Hari Narayana for the redemption of under privileged Bramhin students made him to establish a charitable Trust called “Tummalaplli Annapurnamma Students Home Trust” in Vijayawada and bequeathed all his properties to the Trust to provide free boarding and lodging facilities to the economically backward students in the year 1946.
Dr. Hari Narayana had endowed his residence ‘Sri Hari Nivas’, which is in centrally located place in Vijayawada, to the Trust to accommodate the students. Since its inception, the Trust has been running in the same place and successfully carrying out the objects and aspirations of the founder.
It was in 1944, Dr Hari Narayana with a noble intention had generously made a huge contribution for the purpose of construction of a City Hall in Vijayawada. He had made a deposit to a tune of Rs. 40,000/- in the name of Vijayawada Municipality. The Municipal corporation had constructed an Auditorium after a hiatus of 36 years i.e. in the year 1980 with accumulated amount of vide deposit. The Auditorium was named after him as ” Tummalapalli vari Kshetrayya Kala Kshetram”.
Dr. Hari Narayana was the chief patron to the Andhra University and donated a fund of Rs. 50, 000/- in 1945 for grant of three Research Fellowships in the faculties of Geology, Technology and History.
Dr. Hari Narayana also constructed a building for performing Hindu religious obsequies (‘Karmala Bhavanam’) in the Annadana Samajam Road, Arandulpet , Vijayawada. A.P. Dr Hari Narayana had donated major amount towards construction of foot steps to ‘Sri Kanaka Durga’ temple in Vijayawada.A.P.
